Moving home in Summer

Summer Move Advantages
Moving home in summer is usually everyone’s dream scenario. As movers, our peak season typically kicks off during the summer months of the year. During this period moving companies worldwide are inundated with calls and requests. Our industry explodes into life around March and begins to wind down again around October. We have had some years where we have had an extraordinarily busy Christmas period but the summer is always our most active time of the year.
School.
There are many factors which make the summer our most manic season. The most common factor in our residential/domestic moves is that families with young children have the academic break. Moving with children can be stressful at the best of times. If you add in all the elements that come with uprooting during the academic year, it can cause major disruption to your children routine.
Weather.
The dry weather (which is 1 week in Ireland) can help a lot with your move. Rain and cold weather can affect the timely completion of your move. When it rains each item must be blanket covered for protection as it is loaded and unloaded. We also cover any carpets or floors from getting wet and dirty. This process consumes time but it is essential.
Staff Holidays.
Commercial relocation enquiries also rise throughout the summer. Large companies see the summer as an ideal time to relocate as most of their staff will be off on their holidays. We find that companies see some major advantages in their staff being on holiday during a relocation. Choosing to move your operations at this time could offer little disruption and make more financial sense rather than off-peak season dates.

Summer Move Disadvantages
It’s clear that moving home in summer is a great time to move from the reasons listed above. But here are some disadvantages.
Price.
Due to the high demand for the peak season dates, removal companies worldwide have to raise their pricing structure in order to compete with each other. Cancellations, extra staff, long hours, short notice and extra vehicles are all factors which reflect in your quotation. But if you plan ahead well in advance of your move date you will avoid these rate increases.
International Moving.
Ours is not the only industry who encounter rate inflations during the summer. Airlines hike the prices of their flights vastly. This is something to consider when moving abroad. Always budget your travel along with your moving costs.
Seasonal Movers
During these hectic periods, removal companies tend to hire seasonal staff as extra cover. As is often the case, these movers are not experienced and limited training is provided to them. At Aaltonen we provide extensive training to all staff members before they can handle our customer’s belongings. This is something to keep in mind if you are hiring a removal company for your summer relocation.
Moving Dates
Because the summer months will be in such high demand you may find it difficult to book your preferred date. This is why it is imperative that you stay in contact with your move co-ordinator to reserve your dates. Remember to give as much notice as possible should anything change after your booking. There are many removal companies that will charge you a cancellation fee depending on how much notice you give them.
